Traffic Intensity

The ratio of the average incoming data to the capacity of transmitting outgoing data.

Mathematically we can express the traffic intensity $\rho$ as

$$\rho =\frac{La}{R}$$

where: - $L$ is the average packet size (in bits). - $a$ is the average arrival rate of packets (in packets/s). - $R$ is the transmission rate of the link (in bits/s).
