A method used in TCP for handling Packet Loss. When TCP detects that a packet has been lost by receiving three duplicate ACKs (i.e. four identical ACKs) it immediately resend the packets without waiting for a timeout. This helps in quickly recovering from packet loss and maintaining efficient data transmission.

Examples

The missing segment is re-transmitted before the timeout after receiving three duplicate ack=100 (after the initial ack=100).
