Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)

A Windows Server Role that implements methods for Active Directory (AD) on a Domain Controller (DC).

It is responsible for:

• Hosting the AD database ntds.dit.
• Running authentication
• Replication
• Exposes LDAP/Kerberos interfaces
