An approach in The Transport Layer where a logically centralised controller (in the control plane) computes and distributes the Forwarding Tables used by every Router in a network (in the data plane).

By “logically centralised” it is meant that the routing control service is accessed as if it were a single central service point, even though the service might be implemented via multiple servers for fault-tolerance and performance scalability.

The controller interacts with a central agent in each of the routers via some Protocol to configure and manage the router’s Forwarding Table.

This is the approach taken by Software-defined Networking (SDN).
